Kindergarten News for the Week of October 27, 2014


This week we will focus on the letter Pp as in pan.  Show and Tell for the letter Pp will be on Friday, October 31.  A paper bag with the letter Pp will be sent home in your child’s folder on Thursday.  Please send the bag back to school on Friday with one or two small items that start with Pp.   Please note that the items must be small enough to fit inside the brown paper bag.  Thank you for your help!
Our new Reading story is called “Animal Babies in Grasslands”.  We will discuss what special animals live in the grasslands.  We will also learn about main idea.

In Math we will continue learning about numbers from 0-5.
The NSE Halloween Parade will take place on Friday, October 31 at 2:00pm.  Everyone is invited to stand around the bus loop to see our students show off their costumes.  Please send your child’s Halloween costume to school in a bag labeled with his/her name.  Do not send your child to school wearing his/her costume.  Please keep all toy weaponry (guns, swords, etc.) at home. 

If you are a homeroom helper (signed up for PTO and have all clearances turned into the office) and would like to help at our Halloween Party, please send me a note letting me know that you can attend.  The party will run from 1:30 until 3:00.  You will be required to sign in at the office prior to coming to our classroom.  Please keep in mind, the line for sign in will be very long, so you may want to get here prior to 1:30.
Parent/Teacher Conference forms are due on Monday, October 27.  Please return your forms ASAP so I can schedule you for an appointment.  Thank you!

Next week is Red Ribbon Week!  Please help your child to participate and show that they will be drug free!  The themes are listed below.

Thursday – Day 1 – Library (Don’t forget your book!) – “Hairs to a Drug Free Life” (Crazy hair)
Friday   – Day 2 – Music – “Love Yourself Day” (Wear red NSE shirt)

Kindergarten News for the Week of October 20, 2014

Our new Reading story is called “Nature Spy”.  We will discuss what we can learn about nature when we look closely.  We will also learn about setting.

In Math we will continue learning about numbers from 0-5.
Picture retakes are scheduled for Thursday, October 23.  If you would like your child to get his/her school pictures retaken, please send me a note on or before the scheduled date. 

Scholastic order forms are due today, October 17, 2014.  If you forgot to order, you can still do so online at www.scholastic.com.  Our class activation code is LJBCY.

Kindergarten News for the Week of October 13, 2014


 
There is no school on Monday, October 13.  Enjoy the long weekend!

This week we will focus on the letter Aa as in apple.  Show and Tell for the letter Aa will be on Friday, October 17..  A paper bag with the letter Aa will be sent home in your child’s folder on Thursday.  Please send the bag back to school on Friday with one or two small items that start with Aa.   Please note that the items must be small enough to fit inside the brown paper bag.  Thank you for your help!

Our new Reading story is called “Flowers”.  We will discuss how flowers are unique, as well as comparing and contrasting.
Please continue to review the sight words in your child’s folder every night.  Remember, the envelope should be sent back to school each day.

In Math we will begin learning about numbers from 0-10.
In Science we will continue to learn how to solve problems.

You will find a Scholastic Book Order form in your child’s folder.  If you would like to order books for your child’s home library, please send in a check and the order form by Friday, October 17.  You can also order online at www.scholastic.com.  Our classroom access code is LJBCY.

Kindergarten News for the Week of October 6, 2014


 

Friday, October 10 will be a half day for students.  The Elementary will be dismissing at 11:45.
There is no school on Monday, October 13.  Enjoy the long weekend!

This week we will continue to focus on the letter Tt as in tent.  Show and Tell for the letter Tt has been moved to Tuesday, October 7.  A paper bag with the letter Tt will be sent home in your child’s folder on Monday.  Please send the bag back to school on Tuesday with one or two small items that start with Tt.   Please note that the items must be small enough to fit inside the brown paper bag.  Thank you for your help!
Please continue to review the sight words in your child’s folder every night.  Remember, the envelope should be sent back to school each day.

In Math we will continue learning about analyzing, comparing, and composing shapes.
In Science we will continue to learn how to solve problems.

The Fall Festival will take place on Thursday, October 9.  You may dress your child in gym clothes.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather as the Fall Festival will take place outside unless it rains.
