Kindergarten News for the Week of March 31 – April 4, 2014

This week we will be learning the letter Xx as in x-ray.  There will be no Show and Tell for the letter Xx because we will be having a treasure hunt on Friday!  “X marks the spot!”
This week we will begin Unit 5 – Going Places.  Throughout this unit we will discuss how people get from one place to another.  Our Reading story for this week is called “Max Takes the Train”.  We will be discussing different types of transportation.  We will also be learning about realism and fantasy.

In Math we will continue to learn how to compose and decompose numbers to 10.

Report cards will be distributed on Friday, April 4.  You do not need to sign and return the report card.
Now that Daylight Saving Time has passed, students are permitted to wear shorts/skirts to school again when the weather is appropriate.  Just a reminder, gym clothes may only be worn on gym day.  On Fridays a Spartan shirt may be worn, but please dress your child in dress code appropriate pants on Fridays.  Thank you!

Graduation pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 3.  Order forms were sent home last week and are due back by April 3.  All students should wear a white collared shirt to school that day.  We ask that all girls wear their hair down so the graduation cap fits correctly.
Our specials schedule for the week is:
Monday – Day 1 – Library (Don’t forget your books!)
Tuesday – Day 2 - Music
Wednesday– Day 3 – Gym (Remember your sneakers!)
Thursday– Day  4  - Computers

Kindergarten News for the Week of March 10-March 14

Kindergarten News for the Week of March 10 – March 14, 2014

This week we will be learning the letter Dd as in dinosaur. We will be doing something different for show and tell this week.  Each student has been assigned a dinosaur to research.  It is stapled onto the Dinosaur Project paper in his/her folder.  Please help your child to learn the name of his/her dinosaur, 3 facts about it, and help to print out/draw a picture of the dinosaur.  The completed project is due on Friday, March 14.  The United States projects were outstanding so I am very excited to see the dinosaur projects.  Thank you for your help!!

Our Reading story for this week is called “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”.  We will be discussing what kinds of adventures a little girl can have.  We will also be learning about characters.
In Math we will continue Topic 8 - Understanding Subtraction.

Now that it is getting a little warmer we have been going outside for recess more often.  It is still pretty chilly, so please remember to send a hat, gloves, and a warm jacket with your child.

Purple papers were sent home last week to most (not all) students about school physicals.  If you did not return yours yet, please do so by Friday, March 14.
Reminder – We have snack time every day at 11:00.  Please remember to send a small snack and drink with your child.

Newspaper in Education Week papers are due back on Monday, March 7 if you chose to participate.

The first annual Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 12-13.  Each class will have a basket in the auction and the winner in each grade gets a pizza party!  Our theme is “Bedtime Stories”.  All families who are able are asked to donate one children’s book for our class basket.  The book must be new or lightly used/in good condition.   Books are due by March 28.  Thank you to those of you who have already donated!
