Kindergarten News for the Week of January 27, 2020
Reading
Our weekly question is “What do myths teach us about nature?” Our selection is called “Mosni Can Help” by
Ruth Chan. Our new vocabulary words are octopus,
jellyfish, and creatures.
We will be focusing on the sounds that short i (in) and long
i (ice) make.
Math
Our essential question is: “How can numbers from 0-10 be
ordered and compared? We will be
comparing sets of objects up to at least 20 in each set using comparative
language.
We have been practicing filling in missing numbers up to
10. This can be a difficult skill for
some students to master. You can
practice at home by writing numbers from 0-10 with your child, and counting
forward and backward to 10.
Announcements
We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on
Thursday, January 30! Students are
invited to dress as if they are 100 years old.
Since students need to appear quite a bit older you may want to use
props such as canes, walkers, glasses, old fashioned jewelry, wigs, baby powder
in hair, etc. Don’t be afraid to use
your imagination! If students are not
dressing as if they were 100 they must be in dress code.
Please remember to send your child to school in a winter
coat, gloves and a hat. We go outside
for recess every day unless it is raining or below 38 degrees.
Please continue to practice skills for independence, such as
tying shoes, zipping coats, buttoning pants, putting on hats and gloves, etc.
Don’t forget to practice sight words with your child every
night.
AR reading logs are due on the last day of every month. Remember, in order to get a free personal
pizza from Pizza Hut, your child must read 15 books in a given month.
Our Encore schedule for this week is:
Monday – Day 5 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)
Tuesday – Day 6 – Computers
Wednesday – Day 7 – Music
Thursday – Day 8 – Art
Friday – Day 1 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)
