Kindergarten News for the Week of October 28 - November 1, 2013

Thanks again to all of the parent helpers who helped to make the Fall Festival a success!  Kindergarten would also like to thank the following people:   Hart Farms of Ringtown for their donations of pumpkins, Mr. Bob Burns and Mr. Jim McAndrew for letting us use their tractor and wagon for the hayride, Boyer’s Grocery Store for donating cookies, Hillshire Farms (Sara Lee) for their donation of hot dogs, American Hose Co for bringing a fire truck, and American Legion of Mahanoy City for their monetary donation.  The winners for the Guess How Many Contest were Bethany Loftus (Kindergarten) and Ashley Hepler (4th Grade).

Word List #1 is being sent home this week.  It will be tested on Friday, November 1. Please review the note in your child's folder and do a quick review of the words every night.  Thank you!

Thursday, October 31 is our Halloween Parade/Party!  There will be a parade in the bus loop at 2:00 and everybody is invited to attend!  Please do not send your child to school in costume.  You may pack your child’s costume in his/her backpack.  We will not be changing into our costumes until 1:30pm.  Thank you!
If you have not turned in your Halloween/Valentine’s Party money yet, please do so ASAP.  The amount is $5.00 and you may send it in a labeled envelope in your child’s folder.

Next week we will be learning the letter Nn as in net.  Please continue to review all of the letters your child has previously learned.  Show and Tell for the letter Nn will be held on Friday, November 1.  Please send in one or two small items that begin with the letter Nn.

We will be going outside for recess every day that is sunny.  Please send your child to school with a warm jacket, gloves, and a hat since the weather has been getting colder.  If your child does not have a coat, he/she will not be permitted to go outside for recess.  Thank you!

Our specials schedule for the week is:
Monday – Day 2 - Music
Tuesday – Day 3 – Gym (Remember your sneakers!)
Wednesday – Day 4 - Computers
Thursday – Day 5 - Art
Friday – Day 1 – Library (Don’t forget your books!)

Kindergarten News for the Week of October 14-18, 2013

Kindergarten News for the Week of October 14-18, 2013
We have a very exciting week coming up!  There is no school for students on Monday, October 14 and Friday, October 18.  Enjoy your long weekend!

Pajama Day will be held on Wednesday, October 16!  Please dress your child in his/her favorite pajamas for our party to celebrate learning the letter Pp.  We will eat pancakes, have popcorn, and do lots of things that have to do with the letter Pp!  If your child would like to wear slippers, please pack them in your child’s backpack to change into at school.

Thursday, October 17 will be our Fall Festival!  Please dress your child in weather-appropriate clothes as we will be outside for the entire morning.  The final Fall Festival planning meeting is now on Sunday at 5:00 instead of 5:30.  Please note the change.  We are all excited for this special day!

Periodically throughout the year you will see tests in your child’s folder.  These tests are to be reviewed, signed and returned.  Please do not keep your child’s tests.  They are put in a special file to determine report card grades and to monitor progress.  At the end of each grading period, you will get all tests from that period back to keep.  Thank you for your understanding!

Just a reminder…all students must wear a collared shirt every day except on Gym days and Fridays (Spartan spirit days).  If you have any questions about the dress code you may refer to the student handbook that was sent home in the beginning of the school year, or you can just send me an e-mail.  Thank you!

Our specials schedule for the week is:
Monday – No school!
Tuesday – Day 4 – Computers
Wednesday – Day 5 – Art (We will be painting!  Please pack an old shirt to wear over your child’s clothes!)
Thursday – Day 1 – Library (Remember your books!)
Friday – No school!

Please let me know if you or your child needs anything!

Kindergarten News for the Week of September 30 - October 4, 2013

Kindergarten News for the Week of September 30 – October 4, 2013

Next week we will be starting to learn the letter Tt as in telephone.  Please continue to review the letters we have previously learned with your child.  Your child now has a sight word pouch in his/her folder.  Please review the enclosed sight words 3-4 times a week and send the pouch back to school every day.  Every time we learn new sight words I will add more to the pouch so please keep checking for new words.

We will have show and tell on Friday, October 4.  Please help your child find an item or two around the house that begins with the letter /t/.  The items should be small enough to fit in the brown paper bag that will be sent home next week.

All students will be asked to memorize his/her telephone number this week.  Once your child can tell me the correct phone number they will get a treat!

All Scholastic Book Orders are due by Friday, October 4.  I have a few extra flyers if anybody needs a new one.  I highly recommend taking advantage of this program if you are able.  Some of the books are only $1 and each order earns our class points to use to expand our classroom library.  We will have a book order every month so keep looking in your child's folder for more opportunities to purchase books.   Thank you to those of you who have already ordered!

The North Schuylkill High School band will be having its first ever TOB competition on Saturday, October 5.  I encourage everyone to attend, though it is completely optional.  It is a great way to support the arts and expose your child to music!  My band, Blue Mountain, will be at the show (though I will also be supporting my Spartans!).  Anyone who I see at the show or brings in a ticket/program from the show will get a free homework pass as a reward for supporting music in our schools!  Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults.  Gates open at 5:15pm.  I hope to see you there!

Our specials schedule for the week is:
Monday – Day 4 - Computers
Tuesday – Day 5 –Art
Wednesday – Day 1 – Library (Remember your books!)
Thursday – Day 2 – Music
Friday – Day 3 - Gym (Don’t forget to wear sneakers!)
