Kindergarten News for the Week of September 23-27, 2013

School has been in session for almost a month!  Can you believe it?  Thank you for all of your time and help so far this year!

Next week we will be starting to learn the letter Hh as in hat.  Please continue to review the letters Ll, Gg,  and Oo with your child.  Your child now has a sight word pouch in his/her folder.  Please review the enclosed sight words 3-4 times a week and send the pouch back to school every day.  Every time we learn new sight words I will add more to the pouch so please keep checking for new words.

We will have show and tell on Thursday, September 26.  Please help your child find an item or two around the house that begins with the letter /h/.  The items should be small enough to fit in the brown paper bag that will be sent home next week.  

Friday, September 27 will be “Hat Day” to celebrate learning the letter Hh!  Please send your child to school with a hat to wear.  It can be anything from a baseball cap to a colorful sombrero.  Feel free to be creative!  

You may want to send in a sweater or jacket for your child to keep in his/her cubby.  Our room is often chilly due to the constant blowing of our air system.  You may also want to send a change of clothes to be kept in case of spills or accidents.  These are completely optional and up to you!

Please continue to help your child memorize his/her 4 digit student ID.  The number can be found on his/her bus tag and folder.  This number is important to know so your child can order lunch, log onto the computer, and check out books from the library.  Thank you for your help!

Kindergarten News for the Week of September 16-20, 2013

Next week we will be starting to learn the letter Gg as in goat.  Please continue to review the letters Ll and Oo with your child.

Anyone interested in helping with the Kindergarten Fall Festival is invited to a meeting in the NSE cafeteria at 2:00 on Tuesday, September 17^th.  In order to help at the Fall Festival you must have clearances.  The Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 17^th (no rain date).  The meeting may run until the end of the school day.  Please send me a note or email if you would like to help but are unable to attend the meeting.

Next week we will be starting to learn the letter Oo as in octopus.  Please continue to review the letter Ll at home with your child, as well as the letter Oo.

We will have show and tell on Thursday, September 12.  Please help your child find an item or two around the house that begins with the letter /o/.  The items should be small enough to fit in the brown paper bag that will be sent home next week.

The Book Fair will be held from September 9-12.  If you would like, you may take your child to shop at the evening book fair on September 9 from 4:00-7:00pm.  You may also send in your child's order on Wednesday, September 11.  The students will have time to shop at the beginning of library class.  Please make sure order forms are specific as to which items your child should buy to eliminate any confusion.

Kindergarten News for the Week of September 2-6, 2013

Congratulations!!  You made it through the first week of kindergarten!  There is no school on Monday due to the Labor Day holiday.  Enjoy the long weekend!

Next week we will be continuing to learn the letter Ll as in lion.  Please review the letter and sound with your child at home.  

 On Thursday, September 5 Kindergarten will have a Mini Luau to celebrate learning the letter “Ll”!  Students are permitted to wear tropical clothes (bright colors, floral prints, and Hawaiian shirts, etc.).  They will receive a lei.  More details will be sent home next week.  No flip flops please!

All children need a snack and drink every day.  Snack time is usually at 11:30.  In order to eliminate confusion about whether something is a snack or a drink, you may want to pack your child’s lunch in a regular lunchbox and his/her snack in a paper bag marked “snack”.  Some children have eaten snack for lunch when they were supposed to eat in the cafeteria!
