Most of you have probably heard from your child by now that I am expecting a baby in May.  Every summer I ask for a family to volunteer to give a loving home to our class pets for our summer vacation.  This year is a little different because the lucky family will get to keep our guinea pigs (Ron and Darth Vader) from the first week of May (when I have the baby) until we return to school in August!  The only requirements are that you promise to keep them safe from any other animals in your home, make sure they have food and water at all times, and that someone will gently handle the guinea pigs a few times a week.  If your family is interested in taking care of our much loved class pets for the summer please contact me by April 17.  If a few families are interested, I will pick names from a hat.  Thank you!

The 100th Day of School will be on Wednesday, February 1 if we have no snow days before that day.  Can you believe it? The time has really gone fast!  We are planning a special day with lots of 100 activities and we need your help.  We would like your child to dress as if he/she were 100 years old.  You want your child to appear older so you may want to use props such as canes, walkers, glasses, old-fashioned jewelry, wigs, hair sprays, etc.  One quick way to look older is to put baby powder in your child's hair.  Don't be afraid to use your imagination!

The Kindergarten Luau will be on Friday, February 3.  Your child can wear a Hawaiian shirt or flowered dress to school that day.  Every child will be given a lei.  Please keep the weather in mind.  Remember, no shorts or flip flops are allowed.  This celebration will be treated as the January behavior award.  If your child received 3 or more yellow, orange, or red days in January they will be sent to the time out room during the luau.

Don’t forget to do a quick review of your child’s sight words every night.  Remember, students must learn all 96 Kindergarten sight words by the end of the year!
