Kindergarten News for the Week of May 29, 2018

This Friday, June 1st Q and U will be getting married so they can forever be joined in words like quarter, queen, and quail!  To celebrate, students are allowed to dress up as if they are going to a wedding.  Dress code rules do not apply if your child will be dressing up.  This is just for fun to learn the qu sound so please do not go out and buy anything special – just use what you already have.  We are so excited for the wedding ceremony!

The last day of school is on Tuesday, June 5.  Dismissal will be at Noon beginning with Kindergarten and ending with 6th grade.  Have a safe and enjoyable summer!

Our new Reading story is called “The House That Tony Lives In”.  We will discuss who helps to build a house.  We will also learn about setting.

In Math we will be finishing our Unit on measurement and beginning to practice some first grade skills!

Our specials schedule for the rest of the year is:
Tuesday – Day 7 – Guidance
Wednesday – Day 8 – Phys. Ed. (Remember your sneakers!)
Thursday – Day 9 – Music
Friday – Day 10 - Computers
Monday (June 4) - Day 1 - Art

Please let me know if you or your child need anything.  Have a wonderful summer!

Kindergarten News for the Week of May 14, 2018

There are only three more weeks until summer vacation!  That means it is time to find a summer home for the class guinea pigs, Ron Weasley and Darth Vader.  If you and your family would like to take care of our lovable pets during the summer, please let me know in a signed note by Friday, May 18.  You would be responsible for keeping our furry friends safe, playing with them, making sure they always have clean water and food, and cleaning their cage at least once per week.  The guinea pigs would need to be back at school on Meet the Teacher night of the 2018-19 school year.  If there is more than one family who volunteers, I will pick names out of a hat.  Thank you!

Graduation tickets will be coming home this Friday.  Please check your child’s folder and put the tickets in a safe place until Kindergarten Graduation on Tuesday, May 22.

Kindergarten Graduation is quickly approaching.  Students are encouraged to wear a white collared shirt with dress code appropriate pants, shorts, or skirt for Kindergarten Graduation, however it is not mandatory.  When picking out your child’s outfit for graduation day, please keep in mind that they will be wearing a cap and gown for the ceremony and it can get very hot on the stage with lights on them.  There is a possibility that we will be walking to the high school the morning of Graduation to practice so we ask that your child wears good walking shoes.

This week we will be reviewing long and short vowel sounds.  There will be no Show and Tell for the remainder of the year.

Our new Reading story is called “Building Beavers.”  We will learn what friends can build together.  We will also learn about plot.

In Math we will be learning about measurement.

Our specials schedule for the week is:
Monday –Day 8 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)
Tuesday – Day 9 – Music
Wednesday – Day 10 – Computers
Thursday – Day 1 – Art
Friday – Day 2 – Library
