Kindergarten News for the Week of October 1, 2018

Monday, October 1 will be a free dress down (jeans or sweatpants) for any student who wears a blue shirt.  Thank you for supporting bully prevention!

Students will be dismissed on Friday, October 5 at 12:00 due to an Act 80 half day.

Most students have been doing an excellent job reading books and filling out their book logs this month.  The students who read at least 15 books in September will get to pick out of the prize box.  In October, we will begin the Book It program.  If your child reads at least 15 books in the month of October they will get a coupon for a free personal pizza at Pizza Hut!

Our new Reading story is called “Smash!  Crash!”.  We will discuss characters, as well as what people like to do with their friends.

This week we will be focusing on the letter Mm as in man.  Show and Tell for the letter Mm will be on Friday, October 6.  A paper bag with the letter Mm on it will be sent home in your child’s folder.  Please send the bag back to school on Friday with one or two small items that start with Mm.   Please note that the items must be small enough to fit inside the brown paper bag.  Thank you for your help!

In Math we will begin learning about shapes.

Scholastic Book Orders will be sent home this week.  They are due back on Friday, October 12.

Please continue to help your child memorize his/her 5 digit student ID.  The number can be found on his/her folder.  This number is important to know so your child can order lunch, log onto the computer, and check out books from the library.  Thank you for your help!

Kindergarten News for the Week of September 17, 2018

Wow, my class has been working so hard this year!  They are learning our routines and making new friends.  I am a lucky teacher to have such wonderful kiddos this year.  Awesome job so far everyone!

If you would like to help with the Kindergarten Fall Festival, and did not notify me yet, please send me a note or email.  The next planning meeting is on Monday, September 24 at 7pm.  It will be held at Francesco’s (yum!).

There will be a Spartan Dress Down Day on Friday, September 21.  If your child brings $1.00 to school, they can wear a Spartan shirt with jeans or sweatpants/shorts.

Next week we will begin our new Reading story “Plaidypus Lost”.  We will discuss how families cooperate, as well as talk about the setting of a story.  A few new letters will be introduced this week (Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, Ss) and we will come back later in the year to learn about them in more detail.

In Math we will continue to learn about numbers 0-5.

Please continue to review sight words every day.  Your child’s sight word paper should be kept in his/her folder so you know when to move onto the next list.

You may want to send in a sweater (with no hood) for your child to keep in his/her cubby.  Our room is often chilly due to the constant blowing of our air system.  Please also send in a complete change of clothes for your child in case of spills or accidents.

If your child has not learned his/her 5-digit ID number yet, please continue to work on memorization.  The number is used for buying lunch, checking out books from the library, and logging on to computers.

Our Specials schedule for next week is:
Monday – Day 5 - Computers
Tuesday – Day 6 –Art
Wednesday – Day 7 – Guidance
Thursday – Day 8 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)
Friday – Day 9 – Music

Please let me know if you or your child need anything.  Have a fantastic weekend!

Kindergarten News for the Week of September 10, 2018

Picture day is on Friday, September 14.  Please send your child’s money and order form to school no later than Thursday, September 13.

Due to picture day on September 14, the dress down day originally scheduled for that day has been postponed.  The paid dress down day will now be on Friday, September 21.

If you would like to sign up for the NSE PTO, you can do so at the PTO meeting on Monday, September 10.

Next week we will begin our new Reading story “We Are So Proud”.  We will discuss how school children work and play together, as well as talk about the setting of a story.  A few new letters will be introduced this week (Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, and Nn) and we will come back later in the year to learn about them in more detail.

In Math we will continue to learn about numbers 0-5.

All children need a snack and drink every day.  In order to eliminate confusion about whether something is a snack or a drink, you may want to pack your child’s lunch in a regular lunchbox and his/her snack in a paper bag marked “snack”.  Some children have eaten snack for lunch when they were supposed to eat in the cafeteria!

You may want to send in a sweater or jacket for your child to keep in his/her cubby.  Our room is often chilly due to the constant blowing of our air system.  Also, please send in a complete change of clothes just in case of spills or accidents.

Please continue to help your child memorize his/her student ID number.  This number can be found on the front of his/her folder and will be used throughout your child’s schooling at North Schuylkill to buy lunch, check out library books, and log on to the computer.

Our Specials schedule for next week is:
Monday – Day 10 - Computers
Tuesday – Day 1 –Art
Wednesday – Day 2 - Library
Thursday – Day 3 – P.E.
Friday – Day 4 – Music (School Picture Day)

Please let me know if you or your child need anything.  Have a fantastic weekend!
