March 2-6, 2020


Kindergarten News for the Week of March 2, 2020
Reading
Our Unit 4 Essential Question is “What can we learn from the past?”.  This week’s story is called “Changing Laws, Changing Lives: Martin Luther King, Jr.”  We will learn about an important person who lived in the past.

We will be reviewing the sounds for Pp (pen), Yy (yak), and Ii (igloo, ice).

Math
Our essential question is: “How can objects be joined together?”  We will be using objects and drawings to model the action of joining together to represent addition.

We have been working so hard and we moved onto a new Math skill!  In Spring Math, we will be reading numbers from 0-20 and drawing corresponding circles.  You can practice this at home by helping your child count objects from 0-20.

Announcements
March 2-6 is Newspaper in Education Week.  A “Read-at-Home Challenge” was sent home in your child’s folder today.  Our goal is to have every student read the newspaper with an adult for at least 10 minutes every night next week.  If you meet the goal, please fill out the form, sign, and return to school no later than Friday, March 13.  Thank you!

To celebrate Career Week, we will be having a dress up day on Friday, March 6.  Your child can dress like their role model on that day.

Don’t forget to practice sight words with your child every night.

AR reading logs are due on Monday, March 2.  Remember, in order to get a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut, your child must read 15 or more books in a given month.

February 17-21, 2020


Kindergarten News for the Week of February 17, 2020
Reading
Our Unit 4 Essential Question is “What can we learn from the past?”.  This week’s story is called “Uncovering the Past.”  We will discuss that there are different ways that people can gain knowledge, or learn, from the past.

We will be focusing on the sounds that short u (up) and long u (unicorn) make.

Math
Our essential question is: “How can numbers from 0-20 be ordered and compared?”  We will be comparing sets of objects up to at least 20 in each set using comparative language.

In Spring Math, we will be continuing to objects to 20 and circle the corresponding number.  You can practice this at home by helping your child count from 0-20.

Announcements
There will be no school on Monday, February 17.  Enjoy your long weekend! 

There is a Spartan Dress Down Day on Friday, February 21.  Your child can wear a Spartan shirt with jeans/sweatpants if they bring a $1.00 donation.

January 3-7, 2020


Kindergarten News for the Week of February 3, 2020
Reading
Our Unit Essential Question is “Why do we like stories?”.  This week we will be researching and reading different stories.  Students will decide on a story they like and write or draw about why others should read that story.

We will be focusing on the sounds that short u (up) and long u (unicorn) make.

Math
Our essential question is: “How can numbers from 0-10 be ordered and compared?  We will be comparing sets of objects up to at least 20 in each set using comparative language.

We have been practicing filling in missing numbers up to 10.  This can be a difficult skill for some students to master.  You can practice at home by writing numbers from 0-10 with your child, and counting forward and backward to 10.

Announcements
Please remember to send your child to school in a winter coat, gloves and a hat.  We go outside for recess every day unless it is raining or below 38 degrees. 

Please continue to practice skills for independence, such as tying shoes, zipping coats, buttoning pants, putting on hats and gloves, etc.

Don’t forget to practice sight words with your child every night.
