Kindergarten News for the Week of January 13, 2020
Reading
Our weekly question is “Why do we like poems?” We will learn about nursery rhymes and poems
this week.
We will be focusing on the letters Zz as in zip, and Qq as
in queen.
Math
Our essential question is: “How can numbers from 0-10 be
ordered and compared? We will be
comparing sets of objects up to at least 20 in each set using comparative language.
We have been practicing filling in missing numbers up to
10. This can be a difficult skill for
some students to master. You can
practice at home by writing numbers from 0-10 with your child, and counting
forward and backward to 10.
Announcements
There will be a Spartan Dress Down Day on Friday, January
17. Your child can wear a Spartan shirt with jeans/sweatpants if
they bring a $1.00.
If your child would like to buy ice cream in the cafeteria
during lunch, our day has changed to Wednesday.
Students must have at least $1.00 in their account to buy ice cream on
Wednesdays.
It is officially winter!
Please remember to send your child to school in a winter coat, gloves
and a hat. We go outside for recess
every day unless it is raining or below 38 degrees.
Please continue to practice skills for independence, such as
tying shoes, zipping coats, buttoning pants, putting on hats and gloves, etc.
Don’t forget to practice sight words with your child every
night.
AR reading logs are due on the last day of every month. Remember, in order to get a free personal
pizza from Pizza Hut, your child must read 15 books in a given month.
Scholastic book orders are due on Monday, January 13. For every family who places an order over
$10.00 this month, our class receives 100 extra bonus points to use on new
books for our classroom!
Our Encore schedule for this week is:
Monday – Day 4 – Art
Tuesday – Day 5 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)
Wednesday – Day 6 – Computers
Thursday – Day 7 – Music
Friday – Day 8 – Art
