Kindergarten News for the Week of January 20, 2020
Reading
Our weekly question is “Why do we like certain kinds of stories?” We will learn about different kinds of stories
this week. Our selection is called “The
Best Story” by Debbie O’Brien. Our new
vocabulary words are castle, pretend, explorer, and adventure.
We will be focusing on the sounds that short a (at) and long
a (acorn) make.
Math
Our essential question is: “How can numbers from 0-10 be
ordered and compared? We will be
comparing sets of objects up to at least 20 in each set using comparative
language.
We have been practicing filling in missing numbers up to
10. This can be a difficult skill for
some students to master. You can
practice at home by writing numbers from 0-10 with your child, and counting
forward and backward to 10.
Announcements
There will be no school for students on Monday, January 20
due to a teacher in-service and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
If your child would like to buy ice cream in the cafeteria
during lunch, our day has changed to Wednesday.
Students must have at least $1.00 in their account to buy ice cream on
Wednesdays.
Please remember to send your child to school in a winter
coat, gloves and a hat. We go outside
for recess every day unless it is raining or below 38 degrees.
Please continue to practice skills for independence, such as
tying shoes, zipping coats, buttoning pants, putting on hats and gloves, etc.
Don’t forget to practice sight words with your child every
night.
AR reading logs are due on the last day of every month. Remember, in order to get a free personal
pizza from Pizza Hut, your child must read 15 books in a given month.
Our Encore schedule for this week is:
Monday – No School!
Tuesday – Day 1 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)
Wednesday – Day 2 – Library
(Don’t forget your books!)
Thursday – Day 3 – Music
Friday – Day 4 – Art
