Kindergarten News for the Week of January 6, 2020
Welcome back! I hope
everyone had a fun and relaxing holiday break!
Reading
Our weekly question is “How are two versions of the same
story alike and different?” We will be
reading and comparing two different stories – The Gingerbread Man and The
Story of Cornbread Man.
We will be focusing on the letters Uu as in up, and Vv as in
violin.
Math
Our essential question is: “How do we read, write, and count
numbers up to 20?” We will be reading,
writing, and representing whole numbers from 0 to 20 with and without objects
or pictures.
We have been practicing filling in missing numbers up to
10. This can be a difficult skill for
some students to master. You can
practice at home by writing numbers from 0-10 with your child, and counting
forward and backward to 10.
Announcements
It is officially winter!
Please remember to send your child to school in a winter coat, gloves
and a hat. We go outside for recess
every day unless it is raining or below 38 degrees.
Please continue to practice skills for independence, such as
tying shoes, zipping coats, buttoning pants, putting on hats and gloves, etc.
Don’t forget to practice sight words with your child every
night.
AR reading logs are due on the last day of every month. Remember, in order to get a free personal
pizza from Pizza Hut, your child must read 15 books in a given month.
Scholastic book orders are due on Monday, January 13. For every family who places an order over
$10.00 this month, our class receives 100 extra bonus points to use on
classroom books!
Our Encore schedule for this week is:
Monday – Day 7 – Music
Tuesday – Day 8 – Art
Wednesday – Day 1 – P.E.
(Remember your sneakers!)
Thursday – Day 2 – Library (Don’t forget your book!)
Friday – Day 3 – Music
