Kindergarten News for the Week of November 11, 2019

Kindergarten News for the Week of November 11, 2019
Reading
Our Unit 2 essential question is: “What do living things need?”  This week’s story is a persuasive text called “Run, Jump, and Swim.”  It discusses why exercise is important and good for your body.

Math
Our essential question is: “How do we read, write, and count numbers up to 20?”  We will be reading, writing, and representing whole numbers from 0 to 20 with and without objects or pictures.

Announcements
There is no school on Monday, November 11.  Enjoy your long weekend!

Scholastic Book Orders are due next Friday, November 15.

Friday, November 15 is a Spartan Dress Down Day.  Your child can wear a Spartan shirt with jeans/sweatpants if they bring $1.00 to school that day.

Please keep an eye on your child’s folder for attendance rewards.  Any child who missed 2 days of school or fewer will have a free dress down day with a blue shirt at some point next week.  When the paper comes home, the dress down day will be the following day.  Please keep in mind, our class’s dress down day may be different from the others in Kindergarten.  I will schedule our dress down on a day that we do not have P.E. class.

The weather has been getting much colder lately.  Please remember to send your child to school in a winter coat, gloves and a hat.  We go outside for recess every day unless it is raining or below 38 degrees.

Report cards are coming home today.  Please sign and return the envelope.  You can keep the report card for your records.  Please keep in mind that many of the report card goals are for the END of the year.  Our goal is to see growth every marking period.  For example, if your child scores BEL in the first marking period, we would like to see BAS or PRO in the next marking period.  If you ever have any concerns about your child’s progress, feel free to contact me.

Don’t forget to practice sight words with your child every night!

Our Encore schedule for this week is:
Monday – No School!
Tuesday – Day 6 – Computers
Wednesday –  Day 7 – Music
Thursday – Day 8 –Art
Friday – Day 1 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)

If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.  Have a wonderful week!
