Kindergarten News for the Week of March 27, 2017

The PTO is holding a Chinese Auction again this year as a fundraiser.  Each class is doing a themed basket.  Our basket theme is “I Want Candy!”.  We are asking that parents donate an item or items to contribute to our class basket.  You can send any brand or size of candy.  Please send in your item before Monday, March 27.  Thank you in advance for your donation!  The classroom from each grade whose basket has the most tickets at the end of the auction will receive an ice cream party!!

Most of you have probably heard from your child by now that I am expecting a baby in May.  Every summer I ask for a family to volunteer to give a loving home to our class pets for our summer vacation.  This year is a little different because the lucky family will get to keep our guinea pigs (Ron and Darth Vader) from the first week of May (when I have the baby) until we return to school in August!  The only requirements are that you promise to keep them safe from any other animals in your home, make sure they have food and water at all times, and that someone will gently handle the guinea pigs a few times a week.  If your family is interested in taking care of our much loved class pets for the summer please contact me as soon as possible.  If a few families are interested, I will pick names from a hat.  Thank you!

Friday, March 31 is a dress down day for Autism Awareness.  Please send your child to school in blue jeans and a blue shirt to show our support for all of our friends with autism.

Don’t forget to do a quick review of your child’s sight words every night.  Remember, students must learn all 96 Kindergarten sight words by the end of the year!

This week we will be learning about the letter Xx as in x-ray.  Show and Tell will be on Friday, March 31.

Our new Reading story is called “Mayday! Mayday!”.  We will discuss what kinds of transportation help us in an emergency.  We will also learn about cause and effect.

In Math we will be continuing to learn about composing and decomposing numbers.

Our specials schedule for the week is:
Monday –Day 3 – Music
Tuesday – Day 4 – Computers
Wednesday – Day 5 – Book Exchange (Remember your books!)
Thursday – Day 6 – Art
Friday – Day 7 – Gym (Don’t forget your sneakers!)

Please let me know if you or your child needs anything.  Have a wonderful weekend!
