Kindergarten News for the Week of September 9, 2019

Reading
Our Unit 1 essential question is: “What makes a place special?” This week’s story is called “Too Many Places to Hide”.  It is about a family who just moved into a new house and they can’t find their cat, Poof.  He is hiding in the house somewhere.  Where could he be?

We will be focusing on the letters Aa as in ant and Ss as in sat.

Math
Our essential question is: “How do we classify and sort objects?”  We will be learning to identify 2-dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares.

Announcements
Please continue to help your child memorize their 5-digit student ID.  You can find it on the front of their red homework folder.  This number should be memorized as soon as possible because it is used to buy lunch, log into computers, and check out library books.

If you didn’t send in extra clothes for your child, please do so as soon as possible.  Accidents and spills can happen at any time in Kindergarten and the nurse is often on short supply of small clothes.

School picture day is on Tuesday, September 10.  Order forms were sent home this week.  Please send all money/forms to school in an envelope by Monday, September 9.  Thank you!

There is a Fall Festival planning meeting in the NSE cafeteria on Tuesday, September 10 at 2pm.  If you are interested in helping but can’t make the meeting, please fill out the bottom portion of the form that was sent home last week.  Remember, in order to help you must have all clearances on file with the school.  You do not have to be a member of PTO.  The Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 10.

Our Encore schedule for this week is:
Monday – Day 2 - Library
Tuesday –  Day 3 - Music
Wednesday – Day 4 – Art
Thursday – Day 5 – P.E. (Remember your sneakers!)
Friday – Day 6 – Computers

If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.  Have a wonderful week!
